Jun 07, 2011 · Two types of TIMs are tested based on the addition of carbon nanotubes (CNTs):one mixed with a commercial TIM product and the other only CNTs and silicone oil. The materials are tested using an in-house apparatus that allows for the simultaneous measurement of temperature, pressure, heat flux, and TIM thickness.

Estimating the Effect of Chirality and Size on the - ASMECarbon nanotubes (CNTs) are considered to be one of the contemporary materials exhibiting superior mechanical, thermal and electrical properties. A new generation state-of-the-art composite material, carbon nanotube reinforced polymer (CNTRP), utilizes carbon nanotubes as the reinforcing fibre element.
Flipping Carbon Nanotubes to Continuously Produce Strong We demonstrate carbon nanotube assembly by cooperatively rotating carbon nanotubes in vertically-oriented nanotube arrays (forests) and make 5-centimeter-wide, meter-long transparent sheets. These self-supporting nanotube sheets are initially formed as a highly anisotropic electronically conducting aerogel that can be densified into strong
Washington State University, August 2011 to Present Multiscale modeling of Carbon nanotube (CNT) turfs - Nano-scale discrete modeling of CNT turfs using an in-house developed finite element parallel C code. - Used XSEDE computing resources and services to run the MPI code. - Post processed the results and developed a contact detection algorithm in MATLAB.

Making Carbon Nanotubes Safer for the Environment - ASMEFeb 27, 2013. by Mark Crawford ASME. Even though carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have become a key ingredient in advanced manufacturing processes, surprisingly little is known about how they actually form. The most common method for manufacturing CNTs is through chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of ethylene. This approach, however, results in a complex mixture of volatile organic compounds and
In this paper a new method is introduced for carbon nanotubes modeling. It combines features of Molecular Mechanics and Finite Element Analysis. This method is based on the development of a new finite element, whose internal energy is determined by the semi-empirical Brenner molecular potential model; all quantities are calculated analytically

Thermal Expansion of Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes - ASMEJun 29, 2004 · We have developed an analytical method to determine the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) for single wall carbon nanotubes (CNTs). We have found that all CTEs are negative at low and room temperature and become positive at high temperature.
One promising candidate is the carbon nanotube (CNT). A CNT is essentially a graphene sheeta carbon lattice one atom thickrolled up to form a tube and capped off at the ends. Such a single-wall nanotube can be as small as 1 nanometer in diameter and under a micrometer in length.
